SOUNDING BOARD
The Forums bi-monthly
newsletter, published continuously since 1978, was renamed Sounding
Board in 1996 to emphasize its function as a resonator for the concerns
of the organizations diverse membership. Sounding Board
features updates on Forum programming and articles addressing issues
facing contemporary composers. Each issue also provides an extensive
listing of opportunities (competitions, calls for scores and recordings,
etc.) for composers and other new-music professionals.
Although not a scholarly
journal, Sounding Board has become a fixture in many academic
libraries and is widely recognized as a valuable window
on the world of contemporary music. The publication is also a cost-effective
medium for advertisers (including Forum members) wishing to reach one
or more of the Forums constituencies. The newsletter is consistently
cited as a prime benefit of Forum membership. For many, it has become
a lifeline to the organization and the wider musical world.
Sounding Board welcomes
queries and submission of unsolicited manuscripts on topics of general
import. A modest honorarium is paid upon publication. Letters to the
editor are also invited.
The newsletter is free with Forum membership. Members in the U.S. may
elect to have their copies sent via first-class mail for an additional
$10 per year; members outside the U.S. receive their copies via international
air.
