ESSENTIALLY CHORAL
Essentially Choral: New
Works for Voices and Instruments co-sponsored by VocalEssence
(formally the Plymouth Music Series) and funded by the Jerome Foundation
provides an opportunity for emerging composers to develop their
skills in writing for choral ensemble with accompaniment of up to fifteen
instruments. Composers have their works read by the Ensemble Singers,
the 26-voice professional chorus of VocalEssence and professional instrumentalists.
The composers work with a nationally recognized composer-mentor and
VocalEssence Artistic Director Philip Brunelle. The selected composers
attend a rehearsal with the Ensemble Singers, a three-hour reading session
with the ensemble and instrumentalists, and a mentoring session with
both Brunelle and the composer-mentor.
Applicants submit finished
choral scores (with instrumental accompaniment or suggested instrumentation
to be submitted at a later date) for consideration.
