STAFF MEMO

DATE: March 2003
FROM: Linda Hoeschler, Executive Director
RE: The Changing of the Guard

After 12 exhilarating, productive and educational years at the Forum, I have decided to enter a new stage of life: semi-retirement. One of the great joys of my tenure has been working with some of the most interesting and generous people in the world.

While there are few certainties in the arts, I leave knowing that:

  • We chose the best successor possible when we hired John Nuechterlein as managing director five years ago. At their January 2003 meeting, the Forum's board voted that he would become the President and CEO at our annual meeting in July of 2003. His thoughtful leadership and vision for building audiences for new music will make for a smooth transition.
  • We have a wonderful and dynamic national board of directors, committed to the health and innovation of the Forum.
  • We have a seasoned, dedicated staff that brings energy to program design and execution. Creativity is imbedded in our culture.

I will work full time until July 15, 2003, and will continue in an advisory capacity through September. After a brief respite I will do some consulting work, and undertake joint projects and more travel with my husband, Jack.

My support of composers and new music has not been just a job, but a way of life. My husband Jack and I began commissioning music well before I came to the Forum, and we will continue to do so in the future. To work with so many talented artists is a blessing in our lives. Together we will join you in celebrating the future successes of the American Composers Forum, and in supporting its work.

Warm regards,

Linda Hoeschler
Executive Director
