RE: A Look Towards The Future
Over
her 12-year tenure, Linda Hoeschler has guided the Forum through an amazing
period of growth. For the past five years, it has been my good fortune
to be part of that growth, and to help shape the Forums evolution from
a dynamic, regional arts organization into one of the nations premier
composer-service organizations. The Forum's dual focus on supporting the
careers of composers and developing new markets for their work has made
a striking impact not only on the artists we serve, but also on the communities
with whom they interact.
The breadth of
programming at the Forum is astounding. From core commissioning, residency,
and reading programs to our award-winning radio show, Composers Datebook,
the Forum is nationally recognized for offering a wide range of composer
opportunities and support services. The growth of our Innova Recordings
label has exceeded expectations, with 25 releases slated for this year.
Educational programs such as Composers Suitcase and BandQuest are filling
the gaps in music education, while training young audiences to think about
composers in new ways.
It's remarkably
gratifying to know that we are making such a difference.
There is also a wealth of activity occurring in our local chapters. Launched
eight years ago, they have matured and grown in significant ways, and
are now integral parts of the communities they serve. The eight non-Minnesota
chapters have either incorporated in their home states or are in the process
of doing so, building their own boards of directors and financial resources.
They will continue to uphold the Forums work and mission through a charter
relationship, providing a truly national base of support.
The Forum provides
clear proof that innovation today can lead to new standards tomorrow.
When my tenure as the Forums president and CEO begins in July, I will
be fortunate to lead a team of highly talented and creative people. It
is our shared vision and dedication that will carry the Forum's legacy
of innovation and creativity forward into new territory.
