SAN FRANCISCO CHAPTER: About Founded: March 1997 The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter has taken the lead in interdisciplinary and educational programming in Northern California. Its commitment to innovative programming has led to a recent emphasis on its Salon Series, performances and discussions that create a dialogue between composers and audiences. The chapter has also created interdisciplinary residencies joining composers with choreographers, poets, and filmmakers, to increase composer visibility, reach new audiences, and develop new works. Its Composer in the Schools Program serves San Francisco and the East Bay, training high school musicians to compose works for the area's premier new music ensembles. These programs are complemented by artist-driven Community Partners projects, which yield new collaborations throughout Northern California, creating new relationships between communities and living composers.
The San Francisco Chapter is funded in part through the generous support of: The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation The James Irvine Foundation The San Francisco Foundation The Helen F. Whitaker Fund
