FAITH PARTNERS
The
Faith Partners program forms unique partnerships between churches,
synagogues and other faith communities to create meaningful new sacred
music and enrich the spiritual life of congregations. Faith Partners
congregations collaborate in selecting and working with a composer
over the course of an eighteen-month residency to create new sacred
music that eloquently expresses their faith, offering them a way to
bind themselves as a community and helping them to reach out to the
surrounding neighborhood.
The
launch of the Faith Partners program in New York set two precedents.
First, it attracted a record number of composer applicants. Then,
when it came time to make a final decision, the music directors of
the consortium could not bring themselves to choose between the top
two finalists. So they opted to select both. As a result, the three
congregations will have the opportunity to become closely acquainted
with the personalities and composition styles of two talented and
very different composers.
