NEW YORK CHAPTER: NEWS (MARCH
2003)
On January 11, the chapter sponsored
a discussion on composing for television at the offices
of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians.
The workshop was led by Richard Honoroff, a composer with
nearly 25 years of experience writing for TV. Honoroff
whose credits include music for NBC Sports, the
1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics, and music for the National
Football League shared frank advice and anecdotes
from his years of writing for the major networks. He offered
advice on getting in the door (sheer persistence), choosing
a genre (sports shows, unlike sitcoms, are rarely cancelled),
maximizing royalties (manage those cue sheets), and developing
and maintaining relationships with producers (a little
gift-giving never hurts). Following his talk, Honoroff
fielded a flurry of questions from an enthusiastic audience. HEALTH INSURANCE AVAILABLE TO ACF-NY MEMBERS (MAY 2003) The New York Chapter of American Composers Forum is a partner organization of Working Today's Freelancer Union, a nonprofit organization that offers health insurance and other benefits to independent workers.
