SINAI COMMUNITY INSTITUTE PROJECT DOCUMENTARY COMPLETE

(JUNE 2003) Videographer Tom Buckley of Prairie Fire Media has completed his chapter-commissioned documentary on the chapter’s innovative partnership with Sinai Community Institute. The 11-minute video was culled from more than 14 hours of footage, and is being used to inspire continued public participation in this groundbreaking program.

With support from the MacArthur Foundation, the program brought in eight composers to work with the institute in Chicago’s underserved North Lawndale community. As part of institute projects supporting school-aged children, pregnant and parenting teens, parents struggling with addiction, high-risk adolescents, and families with special requirements, the composers worked with community members to write new works.

CHICAGO AREA PARKS TO HOST CONCERT SERIES

(MAY 2003) The chapter and the Chicago Park District are currently planning a concert series to be held in area parks between May and July 2004. The chapter will plan the event in conjunction with the Association for the Advancement of Creative Music; the Guild Complex, a poetry organization; Sones de Mexico, a Latino ensemble; Miyumi/Asian Improv Project, an Asian performance ensemble; and the park district.

The series will be presented with support from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, and the Helen F. Whitaker Fund.
