2003 NEW MUSIC CALENDAR IS HERE! For
more information contact, Catherine Hedberg at 617-338-4392 or acfb@tbf.org. NEC WIND ENSEMBLE READS BRYANT, SOUTHWORTH & SUTER (MAY 2003) For the past four years, the chapter and the New England Conservatory of Music Wind Ensemble have collaborated on reading sessions of new works. Annually, the program provides three to five composers with readings by the ensemble under the baton of Director Charles Peltz, a recording of the session, and mentoring sessions with a senior composer. On February 27, the latest group of participants heard their works performed by the NEC Wind Ensemble. The session included Stephen Bryants "Alchemy in Silent Spaces" for symphonic band, Christine Southworths "Play Me" for large ensemble, and Tony Suters "Dance (Fragments)" for wind ensemble. Past participants have received good news as well. Matthew Van Brink (2002) used the reading-session recording of his "Asyndeton" to enter the prestigious 2002 ASCAP/CBDNA Frederick Fennell Prize competition, where he received an honorable mention. Composer Gregory Fritze (2001) used the recording of his "Variaciones Sinfonicas" to secure a performance of the work in Spain. CATHERINE HEDBERG JOINS BOSTON CHAPTER (APRIL
2003) The
Boston Chapter welcomed Catherine Hedberg aboard as its new chapter
assistant. A Boston native, Hedberg comes to the Forum after eight years
with The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston. There, she focused
on the acquisition of intellectual property rights for various creative
projects and developed databases, filing systems, and procedures for
dealing with copyright issues. She is also a professional, classical
singer and lifelong musician, who enjoys exploring world music and new
works by living composers in addition to the standard classical repertoire.
She is currently collaborating with composer and pianist Peter J. Hodgson
on a recording of his sacred works. The recording is dedicated to peace
efforts around the world. |
