ABOUT:

A
native of Detroit, Krystal Banfield has studied and performed as a vocalist in
the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She has assisted in producing large-scale projects
with the Charlin Jazz Society in collaboration with the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts and the Washington Performing Arts Society and also at Indiana
University-Bloomington with the African American Arts Institute and the Latin
American Music Center. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education, with concentrations
in voice and violin from Howard University in Washington, DC. and received a Master
of Music
in voice performance from
Indiana University, Bloomington, under the tutelage of Camilla Williams. Krystal
is currently completing a doctorate degree through the School of Education at
the University of St. Thomas-St. Paul and serves on the boards of the Minnesota
Alliance for Arts in Education and the East Metro Music Academy. |
| A
native of Cambridge, England, Philip Blackburn attended Cambridge University on
a choral scholarship. He subsequently moved to Iowa City to study composition
with Kenneth Gaburo, receiving his Ph.D. in 1989. He has taught classes in experimental
instrument building and free improvisation, directed vocal and instrumental ensembles,
and composed works and installations for tape, video, chamber ensemble, and dance.
His works for untrained performers explore the connections between music and meditation.
His major series of publications, "Enclosures," on the American composer
Harry Partch, has earned wide recognition (including an ASCAP Deems Taylor award).
Philip writes on Vietnamese music, the sociology of music, and the use of sound
in public art. He designs CDs, is developing a Sonic Playground project, and serves
on the board of the East Side Arts Council. |
| Wendy
has worked in the marketing departments of the Minnesota Orchestral Association
and the Children's Theatre Company and School, as a contract administrator for
Water Music, Inc. (Boston), and a financial administrator for ARTS/Boston. She
also produced the UWEC Jazz Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She received her
Masters in Arts Administration from Lesley College and a Bachelors in Music from
the University of Wisconsin.
Glenna
joined the Forum in 2003 to oversee operations and programs. She has an extensive
background in corporate management, which has included the position of vice president
of marketing and sales for MakeMusic! Inc., maker of Finale® notation software
for composers. She has also held supervisory positions in advertising agencies
including Martin/Williams, Inc., and Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco,
serving clients such as Apple Computer, Microsoft Corporation, Target Stores,
3M, Pillsbury and The Learning Company. A graduate of the University of Illinois,
Glenna currently serves as a member of the board of Minnesotans for Safe Driving,
is a former board member of the Dale Warland Singers and currently sings in two
choirs.

comes to the Forum after more than 14 years with Minnesota Public Radio, where
he was most recently the business manager of MNN Radio Networks. He earned his
bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota,
Carlson School of Management in 1985.

John
graduated from St. Johns University in 1973 with degrees in English and
German, and worked 18 years for Minnesota Public Radio as an announcer, librarian,
programmer, and finally as music director. As executive producer of the radio
program Composers Datebook, he was presented with the ASCAP Deems
Taylor Special Recognition Broadcast Award. John co-produced the 1994 innova CD
Heartbeats, which completed the project of recording the songs from the
late William Parkers AIDS Quilt Songbook, and helped produce a 1997 disc
of Janet Bakers premiere performance of Dominick Argentos From
the Diary of Virginia Woolf. |

| Rosanne Lofgren
came to the Forum with 22 years experience as an anesthesia assistant and service
coordinator (like Jerry on TV's "ER") at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Following her tenure at the hospital, Rosanne spent two years as an administrative
assistant for Wilder Forest, a program of the Amherst Wilder Foundation. The year-round
educational center, camp, and conference center provided a place for youth and
adults to learn about the environment, build community, and develop leadership
and team-building skills in a forest setting. | Carey
Nadeau graduated with honors from Hamline University with a double major in English
and Piano Performance. She joined the Forum as administrative assistant in 2000
and was quickly promoted to her current position. Nadeau, a composer and performer,
is the only two-time winner of the Wisconsin Music Teacher Association Organ Performance
Award. | | Laura
earned her B.A. in Literature and Music from Coe College. She has written articles
on music and dance for Hancher Auditorium, the Minneapolis Star Tribune,
Opera News, and has edited studies by researchers at the University of
Georgia College of Education. Prior to joining the Forum, Laura served as director
of development for the Dale Warland Singers. |
| John
brings to the Forum more than 15 years of corporate management experience, with
a strong background in finance and marketing. He has worked at several major companies
in his career, including Yardley of London USA and Maybelline. He holds a Master
of Management (M.B.A.) degree from Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern
University and a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from Valparaiso
University. He sings with the Cathedral Choir of St. Mark's in Minneapolis, and
serves onthe board of St. John's Boy Choir at St. John's University. |
| A
composer and conductor, Bob has led choral ensembles for more than 20 years. He
was director of music minitries for Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul. He was
the founding director of the Middlebury Community Chorus, and was the bass section
leader for the Dale Warland Singers for seven years. Bob graduated cum laude from
Princeton and serves on the board of Zeitgeist new music ensemble. |

Patricia Shifferd

| Pat
came to the Forum after a career as a college teacher and administrator. Trained
in Sociology and Anthropology, she received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
Her research and teaching have centered on community development, the role of
arts in society, sense of place, and the social aspects of environmental affairs.
In addition to her work with Continental Harmony, Shifferd leads the Forum's efforts
to develop assessment tools for community arts engagement. |
| Chris
Strouth is the founder of UltraModern Records, formerly the director of artists
and product for Twin Tone Record Group, and a mean didjeridu player and composer.
He is also the impresario behind Future Perfect Sound System, and one of the guiding
hands behind the Forum’s Sonic Circuits Festival of Electronic Music and Art.
Strouth has written regular columns for America Online and Pulse of the Twin City,
and has worked on records with artists ranging from the Intergalactic Contemporary
Ensemble to Stan Ridgway. In the six degrees of separation between John
Cage and Judas Priest, he is number three. |
| David
received his Masters in Composition from the University of Minnesota, where he
worked as a teaching assistant in both theory and musicology. He earned his Bachelor
of Music in composition, graduating with research honors from Illinois Wesleyan
University. David is an active composer, music engraver, and advocate of new music.
His works have been commissioned for elementary and high school ensembles, public
radio shorts, and academic and religious ceremonies, as well as for individuals
and ensembles.
