Genre: Classical
Introduction:
Composer and artist residing in Pittsburgh, PA. My music is artful and melodic, and influenced by jazz, minimalism, nature, and the fine arts.
Biography:
Born and raised in Western New York, I have composed for over ten years, and have been interested in combining music with art history and the visual arts since my undergraduate study at Vassar College. I am currently attending Carnegie-Mellon University for my Master's Degree, working with Nancy Galbraith. I have also studied under Richard Wilson and Suzanne Sorkin, and compose mainly two types of music: chamber works, with principle interests in jazz, religious music, and minimalism, and popular/art song 'recompositions'. I hope to continue on to a doctoral degree while expanding works with multimedia, installation, and collaborations with local artists and musicians.
Artist's Statement:
I am primarily interested in music which is both accessible to a large audience and challenging to the mind, combining melodic flow with textural effects and rhythmic variation. My classical music tends to be emotional, spacious, and dynamic. I enjoy creating a rich 'sound world'. In my popular music I often recompose songs, changing the underlying structure of a recognizable song while still retaining familiar elements.
Recent Works:
'Lake Myvatn'- for orchestra 'Coronation Gone Wild'- fanfare for trumpet quartet (4 C Tpts) 'The Time Has Come', poem by Rumi for SSAATTBB choir, harp, and 3 percussionists 'Songs for Pittsburgh' for Debussy Trio: flute, harp, and viola 'October Octet'- for fl, cl, 2 bassoons, piano, vib, and percussion 'Iceland'- String Quartet No. 1
