Introduction:
Winner of 3 coveted National competitions and ASCAP Classical Composition Winner, West Coast, Roland completed 2 masters degrees in composition and performance.

Biography:
Roland was one of the select few composers chosen to study with the legendary Bob Brookmeyer at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music where he completed 2 masters degrees. He graduated valedictorian, with Highest Honors and simultaneous degrees in Philosophy and Classical Composition from the University of Hawaii, and is presently finishing a 3rd masters.

A Presser Scholar and an All American Scholar, he has won over 30 awards and scholarships in Philosophy and Music including 3 prestigious National awards Downbeat Awards, and ASCAP Classical Composition Student Contest Winner, West Coast, two Composer of the Year Awards, Phi Beta Kappa, Philosophy Departmental Award, Bud Shank Scholarship, and others, all while performing and teaching in 12 countries and his home: Hawaii.

With over 2,000 performances in over 12 countries, Roland stays busy: composing...conducting.....performing.......teaching.........

Recent Works:
"Fantasy for Ted Nash and Jazz Orchestra: Learning to Fly" composed for world famous jazz artist, Ted Nash (member of Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis).
"Tilant, Zare, Nege" commission for Internationally screened video artist, Salem Mekuria and clarinetist, Darryl Harper.
"Dream Corridor Suite": for string orchestra, jazz orchestra, and poet--commissioned by the winner of the Jacob Knight Award for Poetry: Lea C. Deschenes.
"Fugue in G minor: based on J.S. Bach (BWV 578)" for jazz orchestra
"But by Constant Falling" for tenor voice, piano, and dancers--commissioned by Hiroka Hiraoka, the Poet's Elite Winner, 2000.
"Die Verehrung" piano sonata--commission for Chiharu Fujita
