Genre: contemporary classical
Introduction:
Mosher composes for harpsichord and other instruments; crossing musical barriers to move the harpsichord out of the 18th century and into our times.
Biography:
Mosher studied at Manhattanville College and USC for degrees in music history and piano. She also holds a Juris Doctor degree from USC Law School, and is a member of the California Bar. Presently she is active as a harpsichordist and as a composer for harpsichord and other instruments. Five CD's in release, two of Renaissance harpsichord music, two of her own compositions, while the most recent is a joint effort with three other musicians: free-ranging improvisations on piano and synthesizers. Lecturer and writer on Renaissance music, she is the author of "People and Their Contexts: A Chronology of the Sixteenth Century World." Mosher has a strong interest in contemporary music, and is President of the Board of Piano Spheres (founded by Leonard Stein), a recital series presenting the best of contemporary piano music, as well as rarely heard treasures from centuries past.
Artist's Statement:
The harpsichord is a wonderfully intimate instrument to play, with some really interesting sonic resources. I see it not as a period instrument, but as a way of making certain sorts of sounds, and am composing from that viewpoint. I do many shorter, character pieces and dances, which work well for it.
Recent Works:
lots of Latin dances - including tangos and habanera, and character pieces, including two based on B.A.C.H
