Jackson Berkey's artistry encompasses that of an acclaimed pianist, an inventive and highly gifted creative composer, recording artist, publisher and producer.
Biography:
An accomplished composer, Jackson Berkey's published titles now number well over 300 and are published by Walton Music Corporation (Hal Leonard, Distributor) and SDG Press (Masters Music / Kalmus, Distributor). His published works include concerti, instrumental and vocal solos, compositions for instrumental chamber groups, band, plus a growing number of solo piano works. He is perhaps best known for his large catalog of choral compositions for mixed chorus, treble voices, and male chorus. The composer has professional recordings of almost every work in his repertoire.
From single musicians to full orchestra and multiple choirs, Berkey's compositions create excitement through brilliant rhythmic patterns, metric modulations, and intense dance rhythms. His sensitivity to text and to both joyous and tender melodies give pleasure to every performer, including those oft-neglected players of the inner lines in ensemble music. Every musical force interacts with its musical partners, whether they be solo or duet melodies or a percussion ensemble with organ. His writing reveals careful attention to structure, form, and performance success; even with such difficult to balance entities as harp and orchestra. In 2005, Berkey began working on his 51st commissioned work.
