Genre: Concert music

Introduction:
New music for a new time...

Biography:
Richard Arnest holds degrees in composition from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the University of Hawaii. An accomplished flutist and player of Renaissance winds, he was Artist-In-Residence in the mid-70s and early 80s for the Arkansas Arts Council and the State Arts Council of Oklahoma, for whom he presented concerts, performed in schools, created classical music programming for Arkansas Educational Television, and taught woodwinds at the Arkansas Governor's School.

After an 18-year hiatus, he returned to his first love and began composing music again in 2003. His Liquescence for flute and strings won the 2004 EPICmusic competition and was recorded by Enzo Caroli with the Symphony Orchestra of the Adriatic. He received ASCAPLUS awards in 2005 and 2006, and belongs to ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, the American Federation of Musicians and the American Music Center. His latest project is Music Under Construction, a fledgling service bureau for composers and new music in the Midwest.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, he lives and composes in Cincinnati, where he is an Artist in Residence with the Ohio Arts Council's Arts in Education program and sings with the May Festival Chorus.

In addition to ACF he belongs to ASCAP, the American Federation of Musicians and the American Music Center. He is an Artist in Residence with the Ohio Arts Council Arts In Education program. You can buy his flute music (including many arrangements) from FluteWorld.com, who named him their 'Featured Composer' in 2006. His music is published by Amber Waves Music Publishing and Music Under Construction.
