Genre: classical, children's
Introduction:
My music primarily serves the underrepresented in one way or another, and usually has some comedic touch. There is often some pop influence as well.
Biography:
Mark Fish is a composer, arranger, and violist whose music has been performed in venues including Carnegie Hall. He has received commissions from the Newport Symphony, the Del Sol String Quartet, the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, the Central Valley Youth Symphony, flutist Tessa Brinckman, pianist Aileen Chanco, the Chiaroscuro Duo, Music at the Mission, actor David Ogden Stiers, and Wild Basin Winds. His "Ferdinand the Bull" continues to be performed throughout the United States, and was recently released on the CD "Ferdinand the Bull and Friends" on North Pacific Music.
Artist's Statement:
I write music to serve the underrepresented. Womanwork is based on poems by Maya Angelou about the hardships of female, African-American slaves; Ferdinand the Bull is a musical setting of a children's story about a bull who would prefer (unlike the other little bulls) not to be involved in bullfights; and Pictures of Miro depicts paintings by an artist often overshadowed by his contemporaries. In these and other works, I hope to have listeners understand the need to be aware of those we might forget, and to educate others about great works of art.
