Genre: trumpet / improvisor

Introduction:
Trumpet and Flugelhorn player. Improvised music (Free Improv, Jazz), 'Classical' performance (brass ensembles and orchestral section playing), musical theater, pop music.

Biography:
I am trumpeter based in the Southern California area. I have worked in a variety of musical settings including improvised chamber ensembles (Surrealestate), Jazz (Beach Cities Swing Band as well as my own duo/trio), musical theater (for L.A. area equity waiver theater), brass quintets, community symphonies (including the Palisades Symphony), and numerous local pop music groups.

I also gig in a duo with Scott Fraser (electric guitar). We play sound tapestries with melodic overlay. I have recorded four projects with Rich West's ensembles. I will be participating in a performance of "Treatise" by Cornelius Cardieu in May, 2008 with The Wholesale Orchestra, located in Southern California. In Fall 2008, I plan to participate in and produce a concert of the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen. Also on the horizon is a duo release with Motoko Honda (kbd synth). This is tentatively entitled "Edge Study".

My "O.P.T.I.O.N.S." project utilizes a collection of graphic notation symbols which can reflect the interests of the composer or improvisor when designing a musical structure. It has been used as an improvising teaching tool in the college setting (at Vancouver Community College). It is included in a 2008 book on graphic notation entitled "Notations21".

I have a degree in Instrumental Music from Humboldt State University, and a Teacher's Credential in Instrumental Music from CSU Los Angeles.

Recent Works:
"Landscape With Figure" - Fraser/Friedman Duo.
"O.P.T.I.O.N.S." - A flexible graphic notation work for any group of improvisers.
"Bedouin Hornbook" and "Heavenly Breakfast" - Richy West compositions.
"Reflections" - a duo and trio CD of West Coast style Jazz Standards.
"Tiny Trumpet Tunes for Tiny Tots" - micro melodies designed for babies ears.
