Biography:
Peter Capelle is a Brooklyn based composer and keyboardist whose works span many genres, from orchestral and chamber music to electronic and improvisatory pieces. In 2000, Capelle formed his own New Music Ensemble and began performing within the downtown scene of New York City at places such as The Knitting Factory, Galapagos, and The Tank. He performs as the keyboardist in the ensemble and aims to bring new sounds into the world of concert music. His most recent compositions entail collaborations, with instrumentalists as well as video artists. Tunnel, was created with experimental saxophonist Andrew D'Angelo, and the performance included video by D'Angelo and improvised dance. For Williamsburg Bridge, a portrait by the award winning experimental filmmaker Nicole Koschman, Capelle composed the score, which can also be performed as a live accompaniment to the film; In 2007, the score received a Silver Medal of Excellence in the Park City Music Festival. Other honors and awards include selection for the Orchestral Reading Project of The American Composers Forum, a commission from The Oklahoma Arts Institute, and the Walter and Dorothy Roberts Scholarship from Indiana University School of Music. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Master's Degree for Indiana University. In addition to writing concert music, he is the musical director for the Kriste Peoples Quartet, a New York based jazz/blues ensemble, and the lead keyboardist for the Infinite Orchestra, a New York based experimental band, which fuses rock music with classical development techniques.
