Biography:
Regina Harris Baiocchi is an author and composer. Her music has been performed by Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and Southeast Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles.
Regina's instrumental and vocal compositions are described as classical, jazz, gospel, blues, etc. Her opera, "Gbeldahoven: No One's Child," based on the lives of Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes, includes poetry and dance. Her piano sonata, "Liszten. . ." is analyzed in Fitzroy Dearborn's International Dictionary of Black Composers. Regina is the cover feature of Helen Walker Hill's "From Spirituals to Symphonies." She is also profiled on HistoryMakers.com and in the New Grove Dictionary of American Music.
Regina's dance music has been choreographed and performed by the Joel Hall Dancer Troupe, Darlene Blackburn Dancers and the Betty Shabazz International Charter School Ensemble featuring the Azania Hand Drummers.
Regina founded the Chicago Haiku Fest, a juried competition that offers hundreds of dollars in cash and prizes. She has written several hundred haiku and other poems.
Literary publications include "Indigo Sound" and "Urban Haiku."
