Composers invited for 2007 Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute

We are delighted to announce the results of the judging panel for the 2007-08 Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute. The seven participants were selected from among 166 works submitted from 36 states, and the exceptional quality of the music and high level of orchestral writing made the final choices very difficult to make. There is enough fine music here for many, many concerts!

Community Partners 2007

Our Community Partners program has re-opened for 2007, and will begin accepting applications on February 1. The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of American Composers Forum is seeking proposals from composers, performers, and/or ensembles for projects that foster the creation and performance of new music in the context of community engagement. Project proposals will be considered on an ongoing basis, as funding permits, until June 30, 2007.

Community Partners film projects call

ACF Philadelphia Chapter invites applications for Community Partners grants from composers in the Philadelphia area for projects involving new music for documentary, theatrical, experimental film, or animation. Deadline for this call is December 1, 2006.

ACF Annual Meeting for 2006

You're invited to attend the Forum's Annual Meeting, scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2006, at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Huss MusicRoom.
The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m., last approximately one hour, and will include musical performances. A reception and refreshments will follow the meeting, and all ACF members are welcome to attend as their schedules permit.
The Huss Music Room is located on the third floor of the historic Hamm Building, 408 Saint Peter Street, in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota.

Call for CITS Teachers - 2006/2007

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of American Composers Forum (ACF-SFBAC) seeks a qualified Northern California composer to teach high school students in its Composer in the Schools (CITS) after-school program. Classes will held for 2 hours one day each week at Lowell High School in San Francisco and will begin in mid- to late October, 2006.

Subito is designed to give an immediate financial boost to composers and performers of new music. The application process is uncomplicated, and the review process is streamlined to provide a quick turnaround.

ACF Selected for 2006 Joyce Award

The Forum was selected for the 2006 Joyce Award for Music to support the commission of a new concerto for guitar and orchestra by Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate.

NEW MUSIC SALON FEATURING ANTI-SOCIAL MUSIC

ACF-DC is pleased to present Anti-Social Music, a rare artistic species that features new music written by emerging artists.The unconventional chamber orchestra is a perfect match for a New Music Salon, which are designed to introduce cutting-edge new music. The evening will include refreshments and a casual post-show discussion, allowing artists to receive valuable feedback and providing audiences with a glimpse into the composers' processes.

Very Young Persons' Concerts

The Community Partners residency of composer Raymond Berg with Young Christian Nursery School (YCN) came to a joyous conclusion with the program's two June 5 concerts, marking their thirtieth anniversary and celebrating the strong history of their programming in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood.

Composers Selected for School Residencies

The chapter is pleased to announce that composers Jocelyn Hagen (Minneapolis) and Sarah Miller (Minneapolis) will be participating in the 2004-05 Composer in the Schools pilot residency program with St. Paul Central High School and Stillwater Area High School.

Tuesday Salon Launches with Zeitgeist

May 11 saw the launch of the chapter's Tuesday Salon, a new, regular gathering of composers, performers, and sound artists in the Twin Cities. The opening Salon featured works by composers Kerry Cobuccio, Christopher Gable, Ben Mills, Warren Park and Carl Schroeder, all presented by performers of the new music ensemble Zeitgeist.

SALON: WRITING FOR TELEVISION
(JANUARY 2003) The first salon of the new year featured a lecture on composing for television at the offices of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians.

CHAPTER SPONSORS PERCUSSION WORKSHOP
(JUNE 2002) On April 20, the New York Chapter hosted a workshop on writing for percussion at the Annual New York City Day of Percussion held at Queens College.

John Adams Young Composers Program Concert
On February 24, the Crowden Music Center will present an evening of world premieres from the faculty of the John Adams Young Composers Program performed by the Ariel String Quartet. This free concert, supported in part by a grant from the ACF's Bay Area Chapter, will feature new music by Alexis Alrich, Molly Axtman, Alan Crossman, Arkadi Serper, Clark Suprynowicz, and Katy Wreede.
